1) a popular reality tv show in which a group of people are filmed night and day while they live in a special house. The last person left in the house, after the others have all been chosen to leave by the other people in the house and by the public, is the winner.
2) a person or organization that watches people all the time and tries to control everything they say or do

Etymology:
From Big Brother, the name of the political leader in Nineteen Eighty-Four, a novel by the British writer George Orwell. The leader's picture and the message "Big Brother is watching you" are to be found everywhere.
